This cake tastes like a bite out of Christmas morning, chocolate oranges in stockings inspired this rich cake. 



  • 1 package triple chocolate fudge cake mix 
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup chocolate pudding mix
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 1/4 tsp orange extract 

orange cream filling

  • 8oz cream cheese
  • 7oz jet puff
  • 8oz cool whip 
  • 3 Tbs orange juice

chocolate ganache

  • 16 oz dark chocolate
  • 12 oz heavy cream

Fudge Frosting

  • 10 Tbs butter
  • 1 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 5 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

candied oranges 

preheat oven to 350

combine all cake ingredients and whip for two minutes.  pour into two greased 8″ baking rounds. bake for 30 minutes or until tooth pick comes out dry. cool for 10 minutes and flip out of pans onto cooling racks. cool completely.

(I double this portion and do 2 packages of cake mix to end up with 4 8″ rounds for a taller cake)

for the filling

cream softened cream cheese and jet puff together until smooth. add orange juice and zest .  fold in cool whip.

for the frosting

melt the butter and coco powder together in a sauce pan over low heat, it will turn into a thick paste.  transfer cooled mixture into a mixing bowl. Add in powdered sugar, alternating wit milk on a low speed.  add vanilla.  turn mixer to medium speed and whip until smooth and creamy, about 5 minutes.


put one round on a turn table, make a rim around the cake with fudge frosting, fill with ganache. place a round of cake on top, rim with frosting, fill with orange cream. repeat.  frost with fudge frosting.
